Gastrointestinal Disorders

Our digestive system can get easily out of balance. Whether you are experience new symptoms or chronic symptoms due to a condition such as irritable bowel syndrome, Candida, crone’s disease or a parasitic condition acupuncture, nutritional counseling, supplements, and Chinese herbs can help you to regain a healthy digestive system.

The stomach, small intestine, and large intestine make up the primary components of our digestive system. Improper diets, inflammatory conditions, excessive antibiotic use, improper use of medications such as tagament, zantac, pepcid, and nexium can damage the delicate lining of these organs and impair their abilities to function properly.

The Stomach has a delicate system of enzymes and hydrochloric acid which can easily get excessive causing acid reflux or deficient causing an inability to break down foods. When this system does not function properly it makes the Small Intestines’ job of separating out the important nutrients to be absorbed from the toxins to be excreted difficult. The lining of the intestines is made up of small cilia called microvilli. When the microvilli are not nourished properly they become impaired and become less functional. When this occurs our absorption becomes impaired. The microvilli need to be nourished by beneficial pro-biotics and fructoglisaccharides found from eating proper foods and foods high in fiber. When the Small Intestine becomes impaired and cannot separate proper nutrients we suffer nutritional deficiencies that can lead to a wide variety of disorders. Finally this gets passed down to the Large Intestines and causes constipation, diarrhea, gas, bloating and discomfort.

Acupuncture will help to balance the functions of the large intestines, small intestines, and stomach. Balancing the Large Intestine will help to regulate irregular bowel movements (whether they are more or less frequent), reduce gas and bloating, and eliminate painful cramping. Balancing the Small Intestine will help increase the absorption of nutrients and block the absorption of toxins that can be caused by an improperly nourished intestinal lining. Balancing the Stomach will help to eliminate excessive acid production, increase enzyme production, and improve digestion of your food. When the organs of the digestive system of function properly health is more readily maintained. Supplements and Chinese herbs, as well as dietary adjustments will also be used depending upon your symptoms and condition.
